Benefiting Organizations

The DoGood-er Awards will recognize individuals who support our community, but the event itself will help to support local non-profit organizations. For the inaugural event, we have chosen 2 worthwhile organizations, that are serving a specific niche in our community. One is helping to build awareness for a terrible epidemic and supporting families torn apart by it. The other is serving individuals with developmental disabilities.

Going forward, we will allow our winning recipients to provide their charity of choice, and among them we will select 2 worthy causes for the annual event.

The 2016 beneficiaries are:

Save Our Children - the support arm of the Maryland Heroin Awareness Advocates (MHAA), Save Our Children offers services, treatment navigation, resources, education and support for families of loved ones suffering from addiction.

Our members gain comfort and strength through sharing, hope and peer support.

Currently, there are 3 support groups: Frederick, New Market and Boonsboro, with hopes for more. Under the organization MHAA, they build awareness and advocate for Prevention, Education and Quality Treatment for children and adults with heroin and other opioid use disorders, including individuals with co-occuring substance use and mental illness.

The Arc of Frederick County - helps people with developmental disabilities to live enviable lives. Enviable lives are the lives we all lead, filled with purpose and meaning, and with friends and family. This is accomplished by providing services, advocacy, and creating supportive communities.

The Arc of Frederick County provides individually designed support services and collaborates with the community to build inclusive programs for adults and children with developmental disabilities. Founded by parents in 1958 because community programs for children and adults with disabilities did not exist, The Arc continues to provide advocacy efforts and the creation of new services for families today. The Arc of Frederick County supports more than 600 people each year.

To support this event and these organizations, corporate sponsorship is necessary. If your business is interested in being a sponsor, please consider becoming one.
